A Smile
by Peggy Casey

What a wonderful world we live in
So many luxuries at our fingertips
What a long way we have come
But some of the loveliest luxuries in our busy lives are free
Like relaxing around a roaring fire at home talking to friends

Like Coole – mystical, magical Coole
Listening to the soothing sound of silence
Nature’s leveller
Swans sitting sentry on their territory on the lake
Their long graceful necks watchful and haughty
Trees reaching up, up to the sky
If they could talk, what tales they’s tell
Of the illustrious men and women who have walked before us

Ah, but the loveliest gift of all is the gift of a smile
A big open smile that touches another human being
That wipes away the stress for even a moment
Leaving both feeling better
Or is this just me getting older, oh dear
Reality, too, is a leveller, I fear.
